[medium] Podman cannot build when the base image is not cached (Codex review)
Podman's Buildah parser maps --pull=false to PullNever, unlike Docker's pull-if-missing behavior. On a fresh Podman installation, this command therefore fails before creating the archive unless the exact base image has been pulled manually. Omit the flag to retain the default pull-if-missing behavior with both engines. See the upstream parser.
Fix it, or reply why it does not hold, and resolve this comment.

The change adds container-engine compatibility without changing review decisions, security controls, or the pinned base-image digest. Failures here prevent building a release rather than bypassing the merge gate.

Unclear statement, severity unknown, counted as medium (werkrevisor)
hint; Jev: real 0.82, severity 1.2 of 3
The sentence "Docker pulls a missing base image with or without it" is ambiguous and arguably inaccurate. With --pull=false set, Docker does not pull a missing base image and would fail; without the flag (the new state), Docker pulls it. The intended meaning appears to be that dropping --pull=false does not regress Docker's default behavior, but the wording could mislead readers about Docker's actual pull semantics and contradicts what --pull=false does.

Fixed in 7f565b5: the sentence now says what --pull=false meant for Docker and that Docker without it pulls only a missing base image.
The finding's claim that Docker with --pull=false would not pull a missing base image does not hold: the flag only turns off the forced pull of a newer one.

The change adds container-engine compatibility while preserving the pinned base-image digest, archive contents, and review gates. It does not change security controls or introduce irreversible changes to existing data.

Podman's Buildah parser maps
--pull=falsetoPullNever, unlike Docker's pull-if-missing behavior. On a fresh Podman installation, this command therefore fails before creating the archive unless the exact base image has been pulled manually. The sentence "Docker pulls a missing base image with or without it" is ambiguous and arguably inaccurate. With
--pull=falseset, Docker does not pull a missing base image and would fail; without the flag (the new state), Docker pulls it. The intended meaning appears to be that dropping--pull=falsedoes not regress Docker's default behavior, but the wording could mislead readers about Docker's actual pull semantics and contradicts what--pull=falsedoes.Fixed in
7f565b5: the sentence now says what--pull=falsemeant for Docker and that Docker without it pulls only a missing base image. The finding's claim that Docker with
--pull=falsewould not pull a missing base image does not hold: the flag only turns off the forced pull of a newer one.⚠️ werkrevisor ERROR for
