The version follows from the order of the merges

By intent, no change: a HEAD that is an ancestor of origin/main is an older commit of main and gets its own version.

Fixed in a69f334: the comment says that the base changes only when a PR of the old rule merges with a version of its own.

The requirement stays by intent: the earlier round found the silent fallback without origin/main (11bec44), since it gives a wrong version.
